Possible Security Problem (Heartbleed Bug)

I recommend that all registered users on this site change their password. I'm not sure whether or not the server my websites are hosted on was affected, but you can't be too careful, right? I've checked my webhost's main site with the Qualys SSL Server Test and it has checked out as secure (now), so I feel confident in giving everyone this advice.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, I recommend that you read the article found here and CNET has a list of top websites and their current status.

Site Move

First of all, sorry the site was in maintenance mode for so long. I was going to switch web hosts the first week of March but changed my mind and forgot to turn it off. March 29th-April 1st is now the new host-switching time. It should only take a few days.

I think the previous SQL error problem has been fixed. As always, if you have a problem using the site please contact me.

SQL error when updating a story

I'm going to say the same thing here than I said on the DBFL: I have no idea how to fix this. While there is an update to the script, I'm afraid to use it because they tend to create even more problems.

Getting an SQL error after adding a new chapter seems to create no real problems, but getting one after editing story information might. If it does, feel free to contact me.

The server move went perfectly around the beginning of August and I finally updated the site script five minutes ago. More goodies are coming soon. I promise.

Server Change Part 2.5

The entire process is going to take awhile. I asked customer support how long it would take since they have to do it instead of me, and I didn't receive definite answer. So, I'm going to re-open submissions. I make weekly backups of everything so, in the event of a data loss, it won't be too bad.

Server Change Part 2

Yes, everything's still in limbo. I have to make a manual backup of everything (not that I don't usually do it) so PLEASE don't add/change anything after 8pm EST.

For updates, please see the archive of my mailing list. It's a lot easier to post there than to post on three different sites. You don't have to join the ML; the archive is accessible to everyone.

Server Change

This is pretty much a plea for you NOT to add or change anything on the site until February 16th. I have to change over to a new server and it might take awhile for the URLs to switch over to it. This means that whatever you add/change might be lost after my domain is pointing to the new server. Actually, it's probably better for everyone to wait until I give the "all clear."

Um...

I wanted to re-order the author profile information entries so I set out to do so. Unfortunately this required me to edit the database everything is stored in. But after the re-order, all of the information still corresponded to the old item ID number. After trying to fix the problem for about fifteen minutes, I decided to just delete everything from the table.

Soyouhavetoreaddyourinfo.

Thanks.

(By the way, you only need to add your ID for all of them except your website. The script will take care of the rest.)

OISA Update

The archive's running a new version of eFiction finally. I'm a few months behind on the updates.

New Features:

  1. You can now easily find beta readers. There is a link on the left under "Institution Services" as well as a link on the "Registered Otaku" page. I'm trying to find a way to display what they're willing to beta.
  2. There is an option to save an addiction (both short and long ones) as a Microsoft Word document for offline reading.
  3. Registered otaku can now recommend fanfics that aren't in this archive using a URL. They still must fit the theme of OISA, however. Yes, you can recommend something that you, yourself, have written and just don't feel like uploading. Only choose this option for a multi-part if it has an index/table of contents page or if it's in an automated archive like this one.

Submission Confirmation
Recently I've had a few submissions not show up on the site like they were supposed to. The listing was there, but the actual story was not. Please check after uploading/copy&pasting your story to make sure it's really up on the site. If you get errors at the top of the page stating that the file doesn't exit, try adding the text again by editing your story. If the problem persists, e-mail me by using the "contact the director" link under the "institution services" navigation section.

The Submission Rules

I want everyone to know that the submission rules for this site are not identical to the ones found on The Dragon Ball Fanfiction Library and The Otaku Institute even though the three sites do share some of the same rules. Each site has rules that are specific to that particular archive since they all have different focuses. So you need to read the rules on each site in their entirety so that you won't accidentally break any of them.

Here is a list of the universal archive rules:

  1. You can add fanfics, songs, lists, etc. to an archive as long as they match the theme of the archive. You can't add incomplete chapters, author's notes as separate entries, advertisements, etc. Also, your authors notes must be less than 5% of the total text of your submission.

  2. You can submit fanfics that don't match the theme of the archive but they have to be e-mailed to me with via attachment (HTML or plain text) with all of the submission's information.

  3. It is recommended that you have your work edited by someone else as you may miss mistakes. Spellcheck is also recommended.

  4. Plagiarism is very serious and is not allowed. Those who are found to be plagiarists will be deleted and banned from the site.

  5. Fanfics that contain sexual content must be marked with an M (R) or AO (NC-17) rating depending on the level of detail.

  6. Story titles and summaries must be no higher than PT (PG) level.

  7. You are not allowed to submit part of your fanfic and then link to the rest on another site.

If I missed any, or if you have one that you think should be included, feel free to add a comment.

Site E-mails
Previously, if you tried to send an e-mail to an author via the "contact" link on their author page you received an error. This was also the case if you tried to use the "Contact the Director" form. Another error prevented me from receiving an e-mail when someone submitted something to the archive. I doubted that the story/review alerts were working, either. Everything should finally be fixed now. Contact me if there are any additional problems either by using the "contact the director" link, the "contact" button on my author page, or via e-mail.

Changes: Phase I

I added the new categories and deleted the old genre-based ones. All of the existing stories are now in their respective fandom divisions. I also corrected all of Shinigami Baby's Gundam Wing fanfics (at least ten + the accompanying chapters) that one of the upgrades had wreaked havoc on. No more missing linebreaks. Also, every fanfic that was missing (i.e. chapters: 0) has been re-added.

Phase II (site conversion part 2 and skin editing) will commence someday soon.

The Otaku Institute

I have the new site up and I'm letting people submit to it. Soon, this site will become the counterpart of that one and not the DBFL, which will hopefully encourage more people to submit since I'm allowing all Japan-related fandoms. If you already have an account on this site, you don't need to register for one on that site. Just login with your info.

http://www.gokugirl.com/institute

As a side note: The bio information will be the same on both sites. I don't like that, but since it's in the table with the rest of the author data it's also going to be shared.

Submissions Are Back On
I think all of the problems are resolved so I'm letting people submit to the archive again (not that they really submitted in the first place -_-;).
--Goku Girl on 12-21-06 05:20 pm ()
Another Update

I've upgraded this archive, but I'm having problems setting things up the way I want. If you can't access this site via the links on the warning page, or if you receive errors when trying to navigate the site, then I'm working on it. Hopefully things will be fixed soon.

For those of you wondering where the virtual skin went, I'm going to alter it before allowing people to use it again. As I said before, this site will become a general shounen ai/yaoi, shoujo ai/yuri archive so I'm going to make it more multi-fandom-friendly. The Battlelust skin should be perfectly fine (it will stay Dragon Ball-related) and I'll change the site name when I finally get The Otaku Institute up and running. If you find any errors, please use the "contact us" link in the main menu to tell me about them.

Update

Step one of my newest project went fine and you all have permission to login again. Step two will be completed someday soon. I'll probably do it very late at night.

Correction: Step two and step three from the update a few days ago need to be switched around. :)

Login Temporarily Unavailable

Since I don't want people adding or editing fanfics while I'm trying to do things with the database, I'm not going to allow people to add new stories or edit existing ones. If you have the login page bookmarked, please don't login.

You can still read fanfics like normal. That's not going to be affected for the most part, though there will be a little downtime in the future.

--Goku Girl on 12-12-06 09:20 pm ()
Site Changes

This site is going to go through some changes in the near future, which will require some downtime. When that happens, you'll know because the login link on the navigation won't be available. The fanfics already on the site won't be available at certain times, either.

I'm adding a brand new fanfiction archive, The Otaku Institute. This site will change from The Dragon Ball Fanfiction Library Slash Archive to a general anime shounen ai/yaoi, shoujo ai/yuri archive (whose name has yet to be decided on). Hopefully this site will get more fanfic submissions. I'm also going to change this skin to be multi-anime themed and add a few new ones (which includes a text-only skin).

This week I'm going to complete Step 1 of my master plan. It directly involves this site because it shares a database with the DBFL and that has to change. Step 2 involves creating the new site and my skins for it. Step 3 is upgrading this archive to version 3 of eFiction and linking it with the Otaku Institute. Step 4 will be the upgrade of the DBFL. Step 5, the final step, is the re-creation of my splash page.

Additional changes are as follows: change the forum software and make it available again; finally create the link database; find a script to create a better fanart section; re-create my toplists

Welcome to the new DBFLSA
If you see any fanfics that don't have linebreaks (as in the story is just one very large paragraph) please let me know.
--Goku Girl on 12-25-05 09:15 am ()
Nothing New, But...
So this is it. Every single slashy fanfic I have has been put up on the site. Yes, majority of them aren't Dragon Ball, but once upon a time the DBFL didn't exist and I had an idea to archive fanfics from every fandom I liked. I don't want to get rid of them since many of them have been around since the beginning so...

Anyway, I'm urging Dragon Ball shounen ai/yaoi and shoujo ai/yuri fanfic authors to submit something to this archive. If you don't write yourself, tell someone who does. I don't want to have to beg people, but I will if I have to.
